Research has shown that a uniform dress code produces a plethora of benefits. Chief among them are: the reduction in socioeconomic disparities, encouragement of high academic standards as children are able to focus on their studies rather than their clothes, minimization of behavioral issues, cost effective gains and it is also known for building school spirit, pride and community. For these reasons and beyond, it is imperative that our scholars abide by the dress code as per the stipulations outlined in the parent and student handbook. The formal uniform must be worn from November – April. The full and proper Middle School uniform includes:
- White collared shirts and charcoal gray bottoms (pants or skirts) with green tie must be worn. Navy blue blazer with fastened Riverton Crest – scholars may wear a sweater with the crest, but should have a blazer for most formal occasions (i.e. ceremonies, assemblies, trips, etc.).
- Green polo shirts and charcoal gray pants or skirts.
Each and every day as part of the uniform:
- Socks/tights must be worn and must be gray, blue, brown, or black
- Girls must wear gray pants or skirts. The skirts must be longer than the fingers when arms hang at the student’s side, or no more than three inches above the knees.
- Shoes must be dark brown or black (loafer type or casual dress). For winter months, only black or brown boots will be permitted.
- Extreme hairstyles are not permitted. Hair color must be of natural tones and may not be professionally colored, dyed, or streaked.
- Hoodies are not permitted and this includes Riverton’s athletic hoodies.
- Hats and bandanas of any kind are not permitted.
- On the days that your child has Physical Education, please have him/her wear their sneakers and Riverton Physical Education (navy blue attire. It is mandatory that each of our scholars wears the full and proper uniform every day. Our expectation is that our scholars must adorn themselves appropriately as Riverton Street Scholars every day.
