Ms. Shakes:
7th Grade:
Performance Task:
1.      Model the inheritance of traits using a paper pet
2.     Infer pets genotype
3.     Predict the genotype and phenotypes of the pet offspring
4.     Students can also record phenotypes and genotypes of their pets on paper. Student pairs can also set up Punnett squares for the crosses without making paper models of pet parents and offspring’s.
5.     Communicate the results of genetic crosses in a class presentation.
Direction:
create your own unique paper pet with five different traits.
Cross your pet with another pet to produce six  traits.
Determine what traits the offspring will have, and explain how they came to have those traits
Follow the safety guidelines in all activities
  1. Write a two page essay describing your pets unique traits and how he/she got them.
  2. Use academic vocabulary to describe the cross, phenotypes and genotypes
  3. The second is to be  illustrations and diagrams of your pets Punnett squares
