7th Grade:  Students will construct a “compass rose” directional marker using household items – popsicle sticks, spaghetti, bottle caps, for example.  On a sheet provided by instructor, students will explain why a compass is essential to map reading and acquisition of geographical perspective.  Assignment is due Wednesday, September 18.  Students are encouraged to be creative – and most of all have fun. A rubric describing grading criteria will be provided by instructor.
