I CAN: DETAIL THE IMPACT IMMIGRATION HAD ON THE UNITED STATES IN THE MID 1800s.

FOCUS QUESTION: PRETEND YOU LIVE IN NEW YORK CITY IN 1849. YOUR BEST FRIEND SAYS THERE IS GOLD IN CALIFORNIA! WOULD YOU RISK THE LONG JOURNEY IN SEARCH OF RICHES? EXPLAIN.

We have discussed so many interesting and important topics this week from the United States in the mid 1800s. Those topics include the Gold Rush, innovations in farming, communication and transportation. Also, we talked about the positive effects of the rise of Northern Factories. These factories were able to produce a variety of goods that the nation needed as it expanded and pushed westward all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Yet, conditions in factories were often dangerous and workers fought for a better and safer work environment. The country was growing but groups like Native Americans, African Americans and women were often treated very poorly.

Today, we are going to talk about the rise of immigration in the mid 1800s. Large groups of immigrants came from the European nations Ireland and Germany. They mainly came for employment opportunities and an increased standard of living. Unfortunately, many of them faced discrimination and a harsh reception from some Americans. When you read the text, I want you to see if there are any connections between the mid 1800s and 2020 with regard to immigration.

Closely analyze the text and use complete sentence with details when you answer today's questions-good luck! I'm proud of you all! Mr. Bruning

I Can: Examine the Nuremberg trials

Directions: After World War II ended with the defeat of Germany in May 1945, the countries that won the war (Britain, France, the United States, and the Soviet Union), asked these questions: Should Nazi leaders be punished for the crimes committed during the Holocaust? And, if so, who should be punished? What punishments do they deserve? Highlight or Bold the choice that represents your opinion about the statement on the attached Google Document and please put an EMPHASIS ON EXPLAINING YOUR CHOICE:
