Compass Rose ProjectStudents will construct a "compass rose" directional marker using household items--popsicle sticks, spaghetti, bottle caps are examples. On a sheet of paper provided by instructor, students will also explain why a compass is essential to map reading and gaining historical perspective. Students must include information about when the first compasses were invented and also how they were helpful to the earliest mapmakers and ship captains. Students are encouraged to be innovative, creative-and most of all, have fun! This assignment is due Tuesday, September 25.
